This study documented the effects of Galileo Therapy on balance and muscle function in COPD patients during a 3-week clinic-based intensive therapy. Both groups received 5 times per week an intensive endurance (15 minutes) and strength (30 minutes, using different machines) training program. In addition, both groups received 3 times per week just 4*2 minutes slow dynamic squatting exercises (30°-90° knee bend) with or without Galileo Mechanostimulation.
The Galileo group showed significantly higher effects with improvements in balance between 14% (one-leg stance, eyes open) and 28% (Semi-Tandem stance, closed eyes). In addition, the study reported significant improvements in muscle function (e.g. walking distance) al already reported by other Galileo studies #GRFS124, #GRFS107, #GRFS34, #GRFS32).
Considering that only 24 of 250 Therapy minutes per week were performed with Galileo Therapy this shows once more how effective and efficient Galileo Therapy can be used in highly deconditioned patients with considerable impairment of lung function.
