Galileo Research Facts No. 121: Can Galileo Training increase muscle function and balance at the same time?
This study investigated the effects of Galileo Training on balance in women aged 53 to 60. Two groups received a quite intensive exercise program a third group (control) received no additional exercises at all. Before and after the actual training session they received 10 minutes of warm-up and cool-down focusing on stretching. The training itself consisted of 6 different exercises with a total duration of 35 minutes (half squat, deep squat, hack-squat, wide squat, one-legged half squat, lunge). The conventional received identical exercises without, the Galileo with vibration (increasing intensity: 15-25Hz, pos. 1-3, up to 30% of body weight as extra load).
The Galileo group showed comparable results than conventional training on muscle function (measured by isokinetic torque), bus significantly higher effects in all balance test used with improvement of up to 61%. One reason for the small differences in muscle function is that both exercises sets where quite time-consuming and very intense. Decreasing training time for Galileo would have resulted in comparable results and therefore Galileo Training would have been much more efficient. Much higher differences were found in balance tasks showing a much higher effect of Galileo Training – comparable results on balance can be found in other studies like #GRFS174, #GRFS170, #GRFS144, #GRFS140, #GRFS128, #GRFS112, #GRFS102 #GRFS99, #GRFS97, #GRFS89, #GRFS54, GRFS43, #GRFS38) zeigen.
