A wide frequency range is really one of the most important properties of any decent vibration training device (and don't be mislead: many inexpensive devices Show a Speed from 1 to 50 but only do a frequency range of 5 to 12Hz which Limits their potential use dramatically!)
But it needs to be covering the right frequency ranges which are defines by muscle physiology (contraction/relaxation time of the different muscle fibers) and the neuro-muscular system (round-trip time for stretch reflexes (short latency reflex, spinal cord level) and mid- and long latency reflexes (stem brain and cortical levels of the brain) – the higher the information need to travel in the system the more time it needs and therefore the smaller the number of repetitions per seconds which is the frequency. The physiological range is somewhere between just a few Hz and up to about 30 to 40Hz – depending on the individual training level, size and genetics (musle fibre composition, nerve conduction speed).
There are 3 different frequency ranges defined by the neuromuscular system and each for each single one the body reacts completely different and therefore each single one can be used for very different training or therapy goals. Hence, increasing frequency is not focusing on increasing intensity but rather on addressing different training goals. Intensity however is addressed by the amplitude (foot position) at any frequency.
Therefore: first identify the goal for the individual exercise. The result is a frequency range you need to use to address this Goal – Because: The frequency defines the Training goal!
